I was sad to hear of the death on Saturday morning of Sydney DJ David Hiscock who died of a heart attack in his late fifties. Even if many of you do not know the name you would probably recognise the face or have danced to some of his sets at some point. He spent two decades as the resident DJ at the Newtown Hotel before becoming the resident DJ of the Midnight Shift. He was probably as well known for his trademark toupee as he was for his love for his music.
I did not know him well but met him for the first time a few years ago at a karaoke competition at the Newtown Hotel. He was very supportive and encouraging with a great sense of humour. He spent time helping me find a song to sing. Incidentally, I won that night but then again you should have seen what I was up against or rather not up against. That was my one dealing with him but I saw him regulalry over the past few years at the Midnight Shift playing the latest crowd pleasers to a busy dance floor. His enthusiasm and love of his music always shone through. I thank him for many a good night and for helping me all those years ago. David, you will be missed.
